Like his original counterpart, the Joker was a man who became evil supposedly after having one bad day, in which he fell into some chemicals which turned his skin white, his hair green and rendered him insane. While little is detailed about the life of the Joker of Earth -22 before Batman's transformation into The Batman Who Laughs, it is likely that it followed much the same path as his original counterpart, but his world was always destined to die as part of the Dark Multiverse.

However, unlike most incarnations, this one succeeded in provoking his rival, Batman, into killing him and become nothing more than a murderer not better than himself, indirectly leading to the creation of one of the most dangerous threats to the entire DC Multiverse. He is an alternate version of the Joker who originated from the Dark Multiverse (Earth -22). He serves as the main antagonist of the 2018 comic book one-shot The Batman Who Laughs #1 and the posthumous overarching antagonist of the DC Comics stories featuring The Batman Who Laughs.
